The African Chronometric Dating Fund (ACDF), an initiative of the Society for Africanist Archaeologists (SAfA), the PanAfrican Archaeological Association (PAA), and the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA), encourages applications from scholars seeking to improve regional radiocarbon chronologies within the African continent.

Le Fonds africain de datation chronométrique (ACDF), une initiative de la Société des Archéologues Africanistes (SAfA), de l'Association Archéologique Panafricaine (PAA) et de l'Institut Britannique en Afrique de l'Est (BIEA), encourage les demandes de chercheurs désireux d’améliorer les chronologies régionales africaines.

Each applicant is eligible to apply for a maximum of 4 dates per application round. The rationale for each date must be well-explained in the application. If the reasoning for a particular date is not convincing, that date may be excluded from a successful award.

Chaque candidat est éligible pour un maximum de 4 dates par cycle de candidature. La justification de chaque date doit être bien expliquée dans la demande. Si le raisonnement pour une date particulière n'est pas convaincant, cette date peut être exclue de la bourse.

The deadline for applications is December 15, 2024 (no exceptions). Applications will be reviewed by members of the Applications and Education Subcommittee. Applicants will be notified of their award status by March 15th, 2025. The number of awards made during each cycle will vary, and will depend on the funding currently available to the African Chronometric Dating Fund. If an applicant is awarded funds, the person must be a member of one of the three supporting organizations: SAfA, the PAA or BIEA. For awardees, if your membership expires before samples are shipped for dating, it will need to be renewed.

La date limite de dépôt des candidatures est fixée au 15 décembre 2024 (sans exception). Les demandes seront examinées par les membres du sous-comité des demandes et de l'éducation. Les candidats seront informés du statut de leur bourse au plus tard le 15 mars 2025. Le nombre de bourses attribuées au cours de chaque cycle variera et dépendra des fonds disponibles pour le Fonds africain de datation chronométrique. Si un candidat reçoit des fonds, il doit être membre de l'une des trois organisations associées : SAfA, PAA ou BIEA. Pour les boursiers, si votre adhésion expire avant l'envoi des échantillons pour datation, elle devra être immédiatement renouvelée.

Submit applications to chronofund@safarchaeology.org. Receipt of submissions will be confirmed by return email, within a few days. Please contact us directly if you do not receive confirmation.
