The objectives of the Society shall be:

(a) To promote and to stimulate interest and ethical research in the archaeology of the African continent.

(b) To advocate and to aid in the conservation of archaeological resources.

(c) To encourage public access to and appreciation of the aims, accomplishments, and limitations of archaeological research.

(d) To serve as a bond among those interested in African archaeology, both professionals and non-professionals, and to aid in directing their efforts into scientific activities.

(e) To publish and to encourage the publication of archaeological research.

In the pursuit of its objectives, the Society shall promote and support all legislative, regulatory, and voluntary programs that forbid and discourage all activities that result in the loss of scientific knowledge and of access to sites and artifacts. Such activities include, but are not limited to, the irresponsible excavation, collecting, hoarding, exchanging, buying, or selling of archaeological materials. Conduct resulting in such loss is declared contrary to the ideals and objectives of the Society. 

Les objectifs de la Société sont les suivants :

(a) Promouvoir et encourager l’intérêt et la recherche éthique dans le domaine de l’archéologie du continent africain.

(b) Promouvoir et soutenir la conservation des ressources archéologiques.

(c) Favoriser l’accès du public et la sensibilisation aux objectifs, réalisations et limites de la recherche archéologique.

(d) Servir de lien entre les personnes intéressées par l’archéologie africaine, qu’elles soient professionnelles ou non, et contribuer à orienter leurs efforts vers des activités scientifiques.

(e) Publier et encourager la publication de recherches archéologiques.

Dans la poursuite de ses objectifs, la Société promeut et soutient tous les programmes législatifs, réglementaires et volontaires qui interdisent et découragent toute activité entraînant la perte de connaissances scientifiques ou la perte d’accès aux sites et aux artefacts. Ces activités incluent, sans s’y limiter, les fouilles irresponsables, la collecte, l’accumulation, l’échange, l’achat ou la vente de matériaux archéologiques. Tout comportement entraînant une telle perte est déclaré contraire aux idéaux et aux objectifs de la Société.
