Travel, Health, & Safety

Meeting attendees should review government travel guidance to confirm eligibility and requirements for travel. (link) The health and safety of our attendees are our top priority. Rice University Covid policies can be consulted here:

The Rice University campus is in southwest central Houston at 6100 Main St. across Main Street from the Texas Medical Center. Rice University is served by two airports: Hobby Airport is the closest airport to the university (about a 30-minute drive in favorable traffic conditions). George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), which is much larger, is generally just under an hour's drive away, but the drive can take longer in peak traffic times.

Airport transportation:

Metro Bus - the only public transport option to Rice is by Metro bus:

Bus to/from Bush IAH: 102 Bush IAH Express: $1.25 each way. The bus drops off at the Downton Transit Center; from the Transit Center, you can take the MetroRail to Rice University.

Bus to/from Hobby HOU: 40 Telephone/Heights: $1.25 each way. The bus drops off at Main Street Square downtown; from here take MetroRail to Rice University.

Other airport transportation:

You can also take taxis or Uber/Lyft to and from IAH or Hobby, approx. $50-60 depending on the time of day.

If you rent a car from the airport, maps and directions to campus are available here:

There is daily paid parking at the Moody lot adjacent to the meeting center in the Glasscock School. The cost is $12 per day.

Getting around Houston:

Metro includes busses and a light rail system.
